After doing some general research in a variety of genres I have decided I want to work in the physiological thriller genre as that's the genre that interests me most. I have also conducted research in that particular genre (psychogical thriller) to gain a better understanding of it in terms of  narrative, character types, film language/iconography and intended effect. In a film there is stereotypical conventions that appear in the opening here is an example of some conventions you usually see at the beginning of a film: Film Title  Main Actor names Director names Enigma Equilibrium Flashback Planning of landscape/establishing shot  Narrations Animation Title sequence Soundtrack Compilation of photographs Studio and Productions logos displayed Introductions to the characters  Sound effects especially diegetic sounds

Insidious There is a an establishing shot at the begging of the opening sequence at the location of the new house. The intended effect of this establishing shot is to show the audience where the film is set and also what the exterior setting which gives the audience an idea of what it might look like inside The location of the opening is the family home of the main characters, the audience sees all the different rooms, because it is in black and white it creates a spooky and uncomfortable atmosphere. the room we can see that the family has just moved in as there is cardboard boxes The setting of the opening sequence and is in a house. The house is a traditional American style house. As the house is a traditional house, it brings a sense of reality so when you watch the film you feel like you feel like you're watching something that's happened in real life. The colours of the house are welcoming. This fits in with the genre, as you would expect the house to be nice ...

Kick Ass Opening Sequence  The blonde girl at the beginning is introduced to the audience as rather spiteful and arrogant however she is also presented as superior and bossy as he has a gun which gives her control over the boy who is presented as inferior Although at the beginning the girl is presented as arrogant and superior when the scene is switched to the scene where she is at school she is presented as 'that unpopular girl with no friends at school who gets bullied' for example nasty comments from her peers are thrown at such as  'nice backpack, still from the 6 year old' Another way she is presented as lonely and without friends is through the editing as everyone disappears at once while she is still standing in the same place with noone to talk to or hang around with while she waits to be picked up from school. For my AS coursework I will produce the titles and the opening sequence of a feature length film for a psychological thriller. these are good examples because its got a large opening sequence it sets location it sets a mood and i am planning to do the same I will conduct some research and planning into my chosen genre for my opening sequence
