Analysis of opening sequences in terms of locations and settings (AS)

Insidious



There is a an establishing shot at the begging of the opening sequence at the location of the new house. The intended effect of this establishing shot is to show the audience where the film is set and also what the exterior setting which gives the audience an idea of what it might look like inside

The location of the opening is the family home of the main characters, the audience sees all the different rooms, because it is in black and white it creates a spooky and uncomfortable atmosphere. the room we can see that the family has just moved in as there is cardboard boxes




The setting of the opening sequence and is in a house. The house is a traditional American style house. As the house is a traditional house, it brings a sense of reality so when you watch the film you feel like you feel like you're watching something that's happened in real life. The colours of the house are welcoming. This fits in with the genre, as you would expect the house to be nice and happy as the film is a fun, enjoyable film

The Black Swan Opening Sequence  The titles are introduced on a black background with creates a sense of mystery and darkness Scene begins with slow classical music.
