BBFC (AS)

Physcological thrillers very occasionally, receive a 12A Certificate. More films from this genre receive a 15 or 18 certificate. The more bloody and the more violent the film is the more likely i will receive a 18 certificate. Film studios are keen for their films to receive a 15 certificate as this means they can reach  a larger audience without having cut  the levels of violence and too much

I think my phycological thriller film would receive a 15 or 18 certificate however i conduct some research on the BBFC website to identify the differences between these certificates

I have pasted a link below of the BBFC's description of what is acceptable in a 15 certificate film

Here is a summary of what is acceptable in a 15 certificate film in a 15 certificate film:

15 Certificate Guideline

Phycological films very often contain dangerous behaviour and sometimes contain sexual violence and easily accessible weapons - which may not be appropriate at 15, depending on the context

Phycological thrillers also contain sex scenes and occasionally contain sexual violent scenes - at 15 there may be strong verbal references and sexual threats - at 15 there may be strong verbal references to these areas however its unlikely to be appropriate

Phycological Thrillers often contain violence and at 15 violence can be strong but should not live on the imposition of agony or injury

18 Certificate Guideline

Below i have summarised what is acceptable in an 18 certificate film linked to my phycological thriller

The levels of violence at 18 should be acceptable. The 15 guidelines are do not apply

There may be limitations of sexually violent conduct and other harmful violent activities

After looking at the different ratings i have decided that a 15 would be most appropriate for my film. My film is a psychological thriller with only a short bit of violence. Any violence in my film will not dwell on detail. Finally, I would want a 15 certificate so that my film could reach a wider audience
